Square Enix Re-Releases More RPG Classics

Final Fantasy III

HD updates and re-releases of treasured classic games is no surprise in the gamine industry nowadays – especially for Square Enix – but when two of the most highly praised games in the history of RPGs are released again, it’s worth taking note. Both Chrono Trigger and Final Fantasy III are seeing new releases on mobile devices, once again reaching out to a wider audience.

Chrono Trigger
The 16-bit style graphics still look crisp and wonderful even to this day.

Chrono Trigger is one of the most highly praised RPGs of all-time for good reason. The creative minds behind the game include Final Fantasy creators, Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama and Dragon Quest creator Yuji Horii. The game originally released on the Super Nintendo (SNES) back in 1995 selling over 3.5 million copies. The game has seen multiple re-releases (PlayStation 1, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Network) and is once again being released on a new platform – Google Play for Android devices for $9.99.

Square Enix has upgraded the game with an intuitive touchscreen interface and the additional areas added (Dimensional Vortex and Lost Sanctum) from the handheld version remake. Chrono Trigger allows players to travel through time and embark on one of the greatest tales ever told in gaming.

Final Fantasy III
Hard to believe this game originally came out over 22 years ago – it has seen quite a few upgrades.

Final Fantasy III was originally released on the Family Computer (Famicom)/Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in Japan in 1990. Until it was remade on the Nintendo DS in 2006, the game had never been released in North America or Europe. It has since been released on the Nintendo Wii Virtual Console, iOS devices, Android devices and the PlayStation Portable. Now, this RPG classic is being released by Square Enix on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD for $15.99.

Square Enix has specifically optimized the game for play on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD by improving the 3D-quality graphics and adjusting the touchscreen interface. The game beings as an earthquake suddenly erupts, pulling the protective crystals of light into the earth’s surface. As you journey through the game, unraveling the mystery, you and your party of the Warriors of Light must fight the evil that is lurking.

Both games are available from Square Enix now on their respective new devices for consumers. What do you think of these most recent re-released updates of older games? Let us know what you think in the comments below!
