April 2017, Manila, Philippines – A very distinct hum filled the air coming from the engines of iconic vehicles lined up on the streets of Bonifacio Global City, home to the official dealership of Ferrari in the Philippines. As passersby stopped to stare at the site of over twenty Ferrari vehicles warmed and ready to roll, it was obvious that it wasn’t a typical Sunday morning in the city.
On April 9, around 40 Ferraristi and the Ferrari Owners Club Philippines members gathered early morning at the Ferrari Manila showroom for a quick reprieve outside the city. The destination was Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club, a world-class resort, which is about 80 kilometer drive outside of Manila. It was the group’s first drive together got that far out of the city and the excitement was palpable.
The convoy of vehicles was truly a site to behold. Among the drive are models you will never see together at one time in the Philippines on any other day: 488 GTB, 458 Italia, 458 Spider, 458 Speciale, 458 Speciale Aperta, California T, California 30, 550 Maranello, 430 Scuderia, and a well-maintained 356 Berlinetta Boxer born in the 70’s.
The drive to Mount Malarayat is diverse as it is long. Located in Lipa, Batangas, a provincial city south of Manila, traveling to Mount Malarayat meant starting the trip on wide open highways, flanked by rice fields and a backdrop of mountains in the distance. Having more than 20 Ferrari vehicles roaring down this road filled the air with thundering engine sounds that can only come from a Ferrari.
A drive that would have normally taken three hours from Manila was done in less than two hours with the Ferrari convoy. Within minutes of entering Lipa, the group reached Mount Malarayat. Fresh air, open spaces, and good food make for good company and good memories.
