Plugaway is a smart plug, developed by a startup firm based in Beijing, where plugs are connected to a mobile app via Wi–fi technology, along with LED light bulbs that can be controlled through the mobile app. The mobile app is available for both Android and iOS platforms, which you can use to either switch on or off the appliances or lights at home.
With the use of Plugaway plug and app, you can also monitor the consumption of electricity in your home, set up a schedule for the use of certain appliances or set up alerts and notifications for different devices. The new innovation is funded by Kickstarter with a goal of raising $50,000 AUD, which once achieved, will open up a way for the commercial availability of the Plugaway plug.
Cost of the Plug
If you want to update all the electrical objects in your home like an old lamp or other device to an object controlled by a smart app, it will cost you a huge amount. However, using the Plugaway smart plug, you can update your appliance, without spending much on it. These smart plugs, provided with the Wi-fi functionality are priced at a cost of $30 for a pop, which is capable of undercutting WeMo plugs from Belkin. The LED bulbs provided along with this plug are also priced less than a similar kit from LIFX.
The aim of launching the Plugaway plug is to minimize the cost of using your old appliances with a smart control through a mobile app. The developers of this device are also offering an option to allow users to personalize the app according to their use. This openness also covers the interoperability with other available smart home systems, services and apps.
This Plugaway plug is launched after a redesign to its previous Kickstarter launch, where an open platform feature is being added.
