The palette is a startup based in Waterloo, which recently came up with its moddable hardware controller that can be used as a mixing board with your computer. This hardware from Palette offers the buttons, sliders and knobs to enable a hands-on control with a FreeForm hardware interface.
The starter kit of the moddable hardware controller contains a power module, one each of the button, slider and a dial, where you can add more, according to your need.
With the new moddable hardware controller from Palette, you are free to create your own customized hardware. To start with, you need to plug in the power module in any of the USB ports of your computer and then connect as many units as you want. All the units combine together without the need of any soldering, which can be programmed with a Desktop App provided along with the kit. You can use mapping and presets to assign several inputs to different software functions.
The use of a modular hardware
This moddable hardware controller finds its application in many fields for assisting several professionals like photo, sound or video editors to assign required keyboard commands to a specific module. A professional gamer can use this hardware to have a handy control of different game commands to play with an easy reach to all the controls. This hardware is also appropriate for DJ work or with other apps like Skype, to ease their use.
A major issue with this new moddable hardware controller is that a support needs to be created purposely for every application out there. The team behind this invention is planning to provide a support of Adobe Creative Suite along with DJ software scripts and plugins to provide a healthy support for their hardware.
With such an approach and viewing the response to the targets set by the developers on Kickstarter for this moddable hardware controller, it is expected to provide a great support to most of the software available.
