The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has officially unveiled a unique alcohol-detection “tool” that can be used in car and that could potentially save thousands of lives each year. We are talking about the Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety (DADSS) technology that was designed by NHTSA and an industry consortium.
The US administration wants to develop this technology so in a few years we could see it in the new cars. They will equip a car with this technology and will use it to examine driver interactions with the system.
“Education, awareness and enforcement have succeeded in dramatically reducing drunk driving fatalities, but the advanced technology of DADSS brings enormous potential to save even more lives,” said U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx.
This new Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety technology will represent a great tool to fight against the people who are drinking and driving.
How Driver Alcohol Detection System for Safety works
This system can detect alcohol in two ways. The first one is by sensing the driver’s breath and the second one can detect alcohol levels by touch. See how they work in the video below.
