Nokia announces Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 Windows Phone 8 powered smartphones

Once the industry leader Nokia has been struggling to stay in the smartphone game from last few years. But it looks like things are going to change for the boys in Finland, as the company has announced it’s new line up of Windows Phone 8 powered devices. The two phones Nokia announced today are called Lumia 820 and Lumia 920. Lumia 820 is a mid-range smartphone while Lumia 920 is a high-end device with large screen and better specifications. Both of them feature traditional Lumia form factor, with 820 boasting a new design that looks more like HTC’s HD phone line up.

Lumia 820 features a 1.5GHz Dual-Core snapdragon S4 processor along with 1GB of RAM. It boasts a 4.3-inch WVGA OLED screen. Nokia has added a nice 8-megapixel rear camera to this phone, but it lacks the front one, disabling users from using video calling feature of Windows Phone 8. The device only has 8GB of internal memory, but that can be expnaded thanks to the microSD card slot.

The new phones announced today bring Nokia’s Syanptics technlogy to it’s new Lumia smartphone lineup that enables them to detect touch signals even if user is wearing gloves or is touching the screen with fingernails. This particular functionality is not available in the other smartphones, including the iPhone. It also has wireless charging feature that can be used with a cushion like accessory. NFC capability can also be added to this device with a special cover that will be made available when the phone is released.

Other features of Lumia 820 include LTE capability, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and more. It is available in cyan, purple, red, yellow, grey, white, and black giving users a variety of colors to choose from. Nokia has announced that the Lumia 820 will be available in select markets in Q4 2012.

The second smartphone Nokia announced today is Lumia 920, which is a high-end smartphone also powered by Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 operating system. Just like Lumia 820 it is powered by a 1.5GHz Dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor and 1GB of RAM. It packs a gorgeous 4.5-inch display that carries a resolution of 1280 x 768 pixels. Nokia Lumia 920 boasts a 8-megapixel camera. The device also features wireless charging and NFC capabilities. Just like Lumia 820, 920 comes in several colors including red, grey, white, yellow, and black. Nokia has not announced the pricing or release date for Lumia 920 yet.
