Dr Dennis Filips a trauma surgeon of Canadian Navy was inspired by a clip to design a medical clamp which is called ITClamp that can stop bleeding in a matter of seconds. He was inspired by it after his three tours in Afghanistan. It was a very unique invention and Filip received the top innovator at Life Science and Health Care Ventures Summit in NYC. Anyone can use this device, especially it will be very much helpful for soldiers and sportsmen. Dr Dennis Filips himself is very exited for this invention.
The ITClamp will “level the playing field for everybody,” Filips recently told the Edmonton Journal. (His firm, Innovative Trauma Care, is based in Edmonton.) “It wouldn’t matter if you were a medic or soldier, this idea is just simple, and anyone could self-treat or treat a buddy within seconds of the injury.”
How it can be useful?
The ITClamp is not going to be very much helpful for huge wounds. It will be useful for smaller, cleaner wounds, and in places where tourniquets will not operate(think neck, abdomen, groin). This clamp can be used in both combat and civilian ambulances as well as hospitals. Mountaineers can also find this helpful.
How it works?
The ITClamp works using pressure across the seal, the clamp stays in place for hours and sometimes more until surgery is possible. It will definitely stop internal bleeding. The patient can stay safe minimum one hour by using the ITClamp.
This device ITClamp is now available in the European Union and Canada. It is waiting for the FDA clearance in the united states soon it will be commercially available there. Hopefully it will be available in the market in all around the world within a few years and will be able satisfy its users.
